Micronauts Aliens - series one

By 1979, Mego began creating it's own designs for the Micronauts line. Choosing to no longer use any Takara ideas to base the new figures on, the results would be the line of Aliens and their vehicles. A new concept was born- a running theme with the Aliens that continued the interchangeability factor- removable weapons and wrist cuffs. All 5mm compatible, and fully interchangeable with the rest of the line. But, the most outstanding feature of the Aliens had to be one thing...their removable glow-in-the-dark brains. Mego had a definite winner on it's hands with this one! The Aliens line also began with a change in the card and box format, something new and different from the previous releases. Utilizing an idea way ahead of it's time, the cards and boxes featured beautifully rendered paintings by a then semi-unknown former Frank Frazetta apprentice by the name of Ken Kelly. These eye catching illustrations helped sky-rocket sales, and is a common practice used today. These amazing works of art can be seen in their full glory compliments of collector Rumel Tomiampos.
