The Microman Giant Acroyear released in 1977 was very similar to the Micronauts version, in color and box layout. The Microman versions colors were a bit richer and darker, and overall construction and fit a little tighter.

But unlike it's American counterpart, The Takara Giant Acroyear was released two- or should I say, 5 different ways. The inital releases were in a four box set as vehicles and figures. These four different sets could then be combined to create the Giant Acroyear robot.

The four sepeart sets were labeled with an "A", "B", "C", and "D". The "A" and "B" sets being the Armroids Sh and Ta, and the "C" and "D" being the Acrocannon and Acrojet. Then the Giant Acroyear DX set (deluxe set) was released containing all four seperate pieces in one.

The DX set is supposed to be a bit rarer than the four seperate sets, but obviously easier to find all together. Instruction and sticker sheets were included with all 5 sets.

Released in the latter part of 1977 came the magnificent Mecha Acroyear. This motorized robot was another piece Mego unfortunately negelected to produce.

Standing approximately 7" tall, the Mecha Acroyear took 2 "AA" batteries, placed into the compartment in the tanks front section. On the left side of the tank body was an "on" switch, that could move the tank forward or backward depending on which direction the swich was moved.

The main body section could be removed from the tank, as well as the head, arms and wing pack from the back. Numerous 5mm holes and pegs could hold the various accessories added, including a large laser gun, two large red wings and 2 blue missile launchers with red missiles, similar to those released with the Transfer Fortress (Battle Cruiser)

The arms are articulated at the elbow and wrist, and the guns on the chest can be moved up and down. The small red "breather" piece on the front of the head is also removable, and one of the last accessories included is a blue "T" bar that helps connect the Giant Acroyear legs to the Mecha Acroyer's torso.

The Mecha Acroyear was a large boxed item, released in a styrofoam tray with cardboard box top. The piece also included instructions and a sticker sheet.

This toy would have been very popular in the US, it's a shame Mego passed on it.

Both these Microman Acroyears share the same basic color scheme, and can be fully interchanged with one another to create all new robots.
