One of the more unusual and interesting ships in the Micronauts line was the compact flying Astro Station. The only thing that could make it more unusual and interesting would be to change it's name and give it a new color scheme. So leave it to the Inter-changeables not to disappoint...and thus the Cosmic Energy Defense Module, or "C.E.D.M." was born.

Containing all the same features as the original Astro Station; figure launcher, rotating swivel chair deck, fold up rear platform, swivel control panel, entry ramp and "time transport chamber", the C.E.D.M. also came with the extra firepower of 2 additional spring loaded missile launchers. Similar to the ones included with the original Mego Mobile Exploration Lab, these replaced the twin missile launcher previously included with the older model.

Also included with the array of accessories is one that has mystified collectors since day one - the rounded J-peg. This little accessories purpose has never been explained in any instruction sheet in any version of the toy, but when you flip up the rear platform to enclose the ship or fold up the entry ramp, that J-peg seems to come in handy holding them in place. (Which is probably it's intended purpose...)

Unlike the brightly colored series 1 Inter-changeables C.E.D.M., the slick red/gray/blue color scheme of the series 2 version is a nice variation on the old trusty stand-by. And with all parts fully interchangeable with the original Mego version, many new color combos can be achieved.

C.E.D.M. also came with Inter-changeables versions instruction and sticker sheets, which were basically altered Micronauts sheets. Also any kind of copyright or company info was removed from the ships body, and any kind of release date or year indication on the packaging was nonexistent…and even further deepening the mystery of the exact origins of the toys altogether, the existence of yet another new company name appears on the back of the box. The "Free-Lite Products Co., Ltd." seems to be the 3rd different (?) company to produce an Inter-changeables product. The Micronology below shows C.E.D.M. clocking in as the 4th variation on the same ship.
