"Equipped
with super-powerful weapons and heavy armor, Galctic Defender is the Microverse's
main line of defense against marauding aliens and the legions of Baron Karza."
Released in 2003, the text from the file card says it all! These new Galactic
Defenders were replicated from the old Mego Galactic
Defender, and come in four new basic color schemes: "army" green, black, blue/translucent
red and gray. |

tapped into collector's minds to tweak this new Series 2 to perfection, from the
color schemes to accessories. Instead of replicating any of the vintage color
schemes, Palisades opted for a few new and much more interesting ones. Use of
clear plastic lends itself well to these warriors armed to the hilt, from the
helmets to the vintage weapons. Sharing all the same attributes as the vintage
Galactic Defenders; removable hands, feet, ankles, helmet, the wing blades and
leg rockets now come is both silver and bronze chrome plating. |

Thanks
to Palisades CGI Micronauts artist Bryan Wilkinson, the new Galactic Defender
is suped up for the new series with the addition of the "Super Rocket Pack", which
replaces the weak vintage backpack. The new rocket pack features a longer 5mm
peg, with helps hold the backpack in place, a much welcomed new feature. |
Another
new feature included with the Palisades figures are fantastic "crack-n-peel"
stickers (packaged to the left of the figure inside the bubble) showing off the
fantastic artwork of artist Dave Dorman. The reverse of the card shows off the
same artwork again, this time as part of a collectible file card. The Galactic
Defender "microbyte" reads: "A 1970's Galactic Defender with all accessories is
a challenging addition to a Micronaut collection. Now his arsenal is even more
powerful with a new Super Rocket Pack!" |
These 4 different Galactic Defenders are all equally packed, 1 per case, inside a case of 16 figures. Lastly, a clear figure stand was included in the package. All in all, the Palisades retro series 2 for 2003 is a welcomed addition into the Microverse. |
