The Micronauts began as a series of toys based on the Japanese company Takara's MICROMAN toy line. The first of these Microman figures were basically a shrunken version of another Takara toy line, the Henshin Cyborg. These became the first figures of the series- the M10X Microman or the "barefoot Time Travelers". The Cyborgs were a kind of take-off on the US G.I. Joe, and the Microman figures smaller size allowed the company to produce vehicles and play sets that couldn't be done otherwise with the larger 12" figures. So the 3 3/4" figure revolution began. This was 1974, and by 1976 a company named MEGO was capitalizing on Takara's success by licensing these figures in the US as THE MICRONAUTS. The Japanese Microman Manga had a long running story of Good vs. Evil - the Microman vs. the Acroyear. There were no comic, TV, or movie for their US counterparts at the time, but the Micronauts were battling the same evil enemies, the Acroyears! Having a toy line NOT based on a movie or TV tie-in is unheard of these days, yet the Micronauts were a huge hit. You cant have one without the other, so here is a look at the heroes of the Micronauts line. Click on the pictures below to see the different Doers-of-good.
