As quoted from the Mego
toy commercial - "Here come the Trons!" The Micronaut line was growing
by leaps and bounds, and no toy line is complete without a few battery-operated
toys, so Mego followed suit. The Trons included a few big robots and a
few small ones too. It was this kind of diversity that made the Micronauts
such a successful line. The robots were cool enough on their own, but
when the batteries were added, it just increased the playability factor.
And of course, they were all 5mm compatible, which enabled them to blend
in seamlessly with the rest of the line, even with their size difference.
The Trons in the Micronaut line were mostly treated like workhorses, whereas
in the Microman manga, they were more like heroes. So like the rest of
the line, the Trons were divided into good and bad guys. A few were based
on existing Microman toys, then later, Mego added their own twist, and
created new Trons from the old. The Trons were a very unique part of the
overall line, and it would not be complete without them. (As a side note,
the Giant Acroyear is included in the Trons section, even though he was
not battery operated. But he fits in as a giant robot, so why not?) Click
on the links below to see the Trons in all their glory…and of course,
batteries not included…
